Is Trade Me free to use?
Yes. Downloading the app, creating listings, sending offers and chatting are all free. There are no listing fees and no commission on swaps.
How does trading work?
List an item with photos and a note on what you'd like in return. When you find something you want, send an offer made up of one or more of your listings. The other person can accept, decline or counter. Once you agree, arrange the swap in chat.
What if the items aren't worth the same?
You can add a cash top-up to any offer, or bundle several items together. You and the other person agree the final terms before anything changes hands.
How do I advertise my services?
Tap New listing → Service, then choose a category and add your rate, service area, availability and some example work. People nearby can find your ad, message you and book. You can accept cash, goods or other services as payment.
How do I stay safe when trading?
Keep conversations in the in-app chat, check a member's verification badge and reviews, and meet in busy public places during the day. Inspect items before you swap. If something doesn't feel right, report the member from their profile and our team will look into it.
Is there anything I can't list?
Yes. Weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, counterfeit goods, animals, recalled products and anything illegal where you live are not allowed. Services must be legal and you must hold any licences they require. See our Terms of Service for the full list.
Which devices does Trade Me work on?
Trade Me is available for iPhone from the Apple App Store and for Android phones from Google Play.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Profile → Settings → Account → Delete account. Your listings and personal data are removed as described in our Privacy Policy.
